Lane Identity
Use your first two spells to secure trades, protect important creeps, and make the enemy lane choose between farm and health.
Shadow Shaman is a support who turns small openings into objectives. His disables are strong, but he must manage positioning because channeling in front of enemies is dangerous.
View Item BuildsBack to Hero GuidesShadow Shaman converts disables into kills and Mass Serpent Ward into towers, Roshan control, and high-ground pressure.

Move when your wave is pushed and your first item timing is ready. The goal is not random fighting; it is turning pressure into map control.
Play around vision and cooldowns. Late fights are won by choosing the right target and preserving enough resources for the second spell cycle.
These four abilities define the hero's lane plan, fight timing, and target priority.

Wave clear and burst damage for early kills.

Instant control for elusive heroes.

Long disable when allies can protect the channel.

Objective spell for towers, Roshan, and trapped targets.
Buy for the problem in front of you: farm speed, target access, survival, or teamfight utility.

Movement for rotations and warding.

Safer disable range.

Initiation and ward trap setup.

Protects channeling and saves allies.

Escape after committing disables.

Adds extra control value in fights.
Many players pick Shadow Shaman for the disables. The hero's real value is that he can end games 10 minutes earlier than any other support.
The wards deal 95 damage each at level 1. That is 855 damage if all 9 wards target the same building. A single Mass Serpent Ward cast at 12 minutes does more tower damage than four waves of creeps. Place the wards behind the tower if enemies are defending — this makes them harder to kill and forces the enemy to walk through them. If no one is defending, place them in a triangle around the tower for maximum uptime.
Shadow Shaman is one of the few supports who can solo-push a T2 tower at 20 minutes. If your carry has a farming pattern and your offlaner can handle the pressure, walk to the deadlane, drop wards, and take the tower. Shaman who sit behind their carry waiting for a Hex opportunity are wasting the hero's entire purpose. Push when your spells are up. Ward. Leave. Repeat.
