Lane Identity
Use your first two spells to secure trades, protect important creeps, and make the enemy lane choose between farm and health.
Phantom Lancer is an illusion carry who needs patience and matchup awareness. He is strongest when enemies cannot quickly identify or clear the real hero.

Move when your wave is pushed and your first item timing is ready. The goal is not random fighting; it is turning pressure into map control.
Play around vision and cooldowns. Late fights are won by choosing the right target and preserving enough resources for the second spell cycle.

Most players think PL is about illusion micro. It is really about map pressure and knowing which fights to take.
Phantom Lancer's strength is that he can be in two lanes at once. Send one illusion to push the top wave while you show bot with the main hero and Doppelganger ready. The enemy has to guess which one is real. If they send three heroes to kill your illusion, you take bot tower. If they ignore the illusion, you take top tower. This is how PL wins games without ever taking a fair fight.
Against heroes with strong AoE (Sven, Earthshaker, Legion Commander), Heart of Tarrasque is mandatory before Manta Style. The extra HP ensures your illusions survive at least one AoE spell, giving them time to deal damage. If the enemy has a Shaker with Blink, buy a Linken Sphere as your third item. A PL who gets caught by Echo Slam is a dead PL.
