Lane Identity
Use your first two spells to secure trades, protect important creeps, and make the enemy lane choose between farm and health.
Necrophos is a sustain core who wants enemies to stay in his area for too long. He punishes lineups that lack burst, silence, or clean disengage.

Move when your wave is pushed and your first item timing is ready. The goal is not random fighting; it is turning pressure into map control.
Play around vision and cooldowns. Late fights are won by choosing the right target and preserving enough resources for the second spell cycle.
These four abilities define the hero's lane plan, fight timing, and target priority.

Wave clear, damage, and team sustain.

Survival against physical focus and improved healing windows.

Slow pressure that rewards long fights.

Punishes low-health cores and extends death timers.
Buy for the problem in front of you: farm speed, target access, survival, or teamfight utility.

Armor and movement.

Team sustain and dispel.

Spell damage, healing amplification, and durability.

Needed against silence and chain stun.

Situational fight upgrade.

Late durability for frontline pressure.
The most common Necrophos mistake is building damage items first. The hero wins by outlasting, not bursting.
Many Necrophos players rush Kaya and Sange for the spell amp and slow. But Necrophos wins fights by staying alive long enough for Death Pulse to heal through multiple cycles and Heartstopper Aura to tick 8+ times. A 25-minute Heart of Tarrasque gives Necrophos 3200+ HP with Regen, making him nearly impossible to kill without coordinated burst. The damage from Kaya is nice. The unkillability from Heart wins games.
Do not use Reaper Scythe at the start of fights. Wait until the enemy carry drops below 40% HP. The buyback gold penalty + 60-second respawn time makes Scythe one of the best lategame spells in Dota 2. If you kill a position 1 carry at 45 minutes with Scythe, they are dead for 80+ seconds. That is enough time to take two sets of racks and Roshan.
